So I was updating my site and I came to an impasse: was I a geek or a nerd?
I Googled. Yes, Google has the answer to everything. I decided that I was a geek.
Is it shameful to admit that you are one or the other? Nah. Just be yourself. I love hockey. I love the fast pace, the hard (but clean) checks. The fact that a player can get hit in the face with a puck and then come out for a shift two minutes later. But after a game I’d rather sit outside with my telescope and gaze up at the stars. I’m good with that. And really, geeks (or nerds) rule the world: take them out of the equation, and once your computer crashes, you’re in big trouble. We need all kinds. And if you think about it, the geeks/nerds rule the world. I’m good with that. I love my techie stuff.
Though reading this infographic, due to my interests (Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek — can we say “obsession”?), I should be a nerd. But really, I’m not smart enough to be a nerd. If I had been good at math, I would have been an astronomer. But I’m not, so I ended up a writer/editor. I think that plunks me right back into the geek category. Perhaps I should call myself a “gerd.” Hrm. I think that word’s been well-used by those with gastrointestinal issues. Though I bet you there are a lot of geeks and nerds who suffer from GERD. Being afraid of getting beaten up does that to you.
So . . . which one are you? Come on . . . you know you fit in one or the other. Just admit it.
